Approval authorities

The Project in NSW is subject to 86 Conditions of approval pdf

The conditions include requirements for monitoring, assessment, reporting and consultation when undertaking works. These conditions include monitoring and compliance requirements for noise and vibration during construction and provide guidance on the processes required for community involvement and environmental management.

The following is a list of relevant authorities and their area of responsibility for the NSW section of the Albury Wodonga Hume Freeway.

NSW Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources (DIPNR)

DIPNR is responsible for approval of various environmental and management plans as required under the projects Conditions of Approval.

DIPNR also regulates activities that impact on watercourses, riparian zones and groundwater within Crown lands, and soil management issues.


NSW Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC)

The DEC regulates:

  • Air quality, water quality, and noise.
  • Contaminated soils and waste management.
  • National Parks and reserves, biodiversity and threatened species in accordance with the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974.
  • Indigenous heritage.

NSW Heritage Office

Approval authority for activities that impact or potentially impact on non indigenous heritage items.


NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI)
www.dpi.nsw.gov.au

The Department is responsible for::

  • Conservation of fish stocks and protection of key fish habitat.
  • Regulation of construction activities that affect fish habitat and fish passage, including crossings and watercourses.

Albury City Council

Involved in many aspects of the project including local traffic management, flood assessment, urban design and utility adjustments.


WorkCover
www.workcover.nsw.gov.au

Regulates storage of dangerous goods, hazardous materials and safe work practices.
